The interview process was basically to fill out some questions and then they called you if they liked your answers. Here's what you need to understand. The salary that they list is a lie. The way the economy normally works is that whoever takes on the risk of the business gets the profits. So, if you are an employee, you get paid less, but you have some job security and don't have to manage finding customers or doing paperwork. You get your paycheck and a retirement account. At Crossover, the salary they list is approximate. You are paid hourly. You must install software on your computer to track what you do to make sure you work. You get no benefits, no vacation time, no sick time, no stipend for equipment, and you are not an employee. You are on a contract. This means you must handle your own taxes and expenses. This also means that you can be fired on the spot. In other words, you take on all responsibilities of paperwork and administrative duties, all risk associated with a failing project, and are not trusted to do the work without software that lets them watch what you're doing on your computer all the time. Before my phone interview, I saw other people mention a lack of benefits and I assumed they were exaggerating. They are not. This is real. They truly believe that they can put the company risk on you and reap all the profits. Move along. You can do better.
